Doctor who walked around LA perimeter signs book at LAX

Book Soup hosts LA-based author/doctor

Offering travelers a deeper connection to the city beyond the terminal, ASUR Airports and Hudson hosted Los Angeles–based author Dr. Roy Meals at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for a signing of his book chronicling his journey around LA.

Meals, an orthopedic surgeon and faculty member at UCLA, walked the entire 342-mile perimeter of Los Angeles and chronicled his journey in his book, “Walking the Line: Discoveries Along the Los Angeles City Limits.” He explores the city’s hidden, non-tourist, and diverse areas, offering a unique perspective on the city's, suburban, residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

His book signing took place on March 20 at Book Soup in Tom Bradley International Terminal.

“Bringing in authors, especially local voices, creates uplifting travel experiences for our guests and strengthens the connection to the city beyond the airport,” said Maral Matossian, ASUR Airports VP, LAX. “Partnering with LAWA and Hudson to spotlight local authors and celebrate the many dimensions of Los Angeles reflects our shared commitment to creating memorable, meaningful experiences for every guest.”

Hudson Booksellers Book Soup location often hosts authors as part of its local programming designed to entertain LAX guests and was especially interested in featuring a local author.

"At Hudson Booksellers, nothing makes us happier than connecting authors with readers,” said Sara Hinckley, Vice President, Books & Media, North America, Avolta. “Book signings are a uniquely powerful way to do so. Designed to inspire and entertain travelers, these events create memorable moments along their journey. Often working with our partners such as Book Soup right here in Los Angeles, we’re especially proud to champion local authors, giving visitors a genuine sense of place and a deeper connection to the communities they’re exploring.”

The first 50 guests who purchased a book received a special gift, a T‑shirt featuring the perimeter of Los Angeles highlighting LAX, similar to the one Meals wore during his journey.

Walking the Line: Discoveries Along the Los Angeles City Limits is available at Book Soup and other booksellers nationwide.
